Meet Emily From Life With Emily

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I hope you are having a fabulous week so far.  Today I have an exciting post for all of you.  This is the first post in my "Meet..." series.  This will be a monthly series, so each month you will get to meet an amazing new blogger, and learn a little bit about them.  I wanted the first blogger you "meet" to be one of my favorites, and someone I truly do look up to.  Emily from Life With Emily.

Hi Fashions On Top readers! My name is Emily and I blog at Life with Emily. I created my blog in early 2011 during my junior year of college as an outlet to practice writing and share my daily life as a college student. I tied in my love for fashion, clothing, and photography and made that an integral part of my blog! Now I feature outfits throughout the week, new products I'm loving, and anything else I know my readers will love!

What made you want to start a blog?

I had been reading blogs way prior to me starting a blog myself! One of my favorite parts of each day was logging on and reading my favorite blogs, both fashion and lifestyle, and I finally decided to take the plunge when day....when I was avoiding studying at all costs!

How many hours a week do you spend on your blog?

I try to have a set schedule for blogging that way I am using my time effectively. I try to block off about two hours a night and a few more hours than that throughout the weekend for planning my upcoming week, writing and scheduling posts, and forcing my boyfriend to take outfit photos! :)

How would you describe your style?

My style is definitely still evolving, but I would describe my style as being classic with a hint of trendy. I still love the classic pieces in my closet and get so much wear out of them, but it is so fun to add a pair of leather pants or a statement necklace to jazz up an outfit! I like to have fun and what fun are outfits if you don't take risks sometimes?

What are three beauty items you can't live without?

Mascara, Chapstick, and Dry shampoo. Hands down!

What are some of your favorite blogs?

I read all kinds of blogs... I love high fashion blogs such as Atlantic-Pacific, The Ivory Lane, and Gal Meets Glam. Even though a lot of their actual pieces are unattainable for me, it's a great way to draw inspiration! I also have a weakness for mommy blogs. I don't want children anytime soon, but seeing mommies in their day-to-day life and the cute little pictures get me every time!

Where are your favorite places to shop?

Online. I do not like trying on clothes whatsoever, so being able to be in the comfort of my own home, likely in my PJs, is great! I love shopping on ASOS, Zara, Nordstrom + small boutique websites!

What are the best and worst things about blogging?

Blogging definitely has good and bad aspects. I love the community that blogging has and the friendships I have made from it. There are girls that I chat with daily that I have never even met, but blogging connected us one way or another! Of course where there is good, there is also bad. Anytime you open yourself up for the world, there is a chance of criticism. If you go into blogging knowing that it will make the criticism sting a little less. I try to brush it off and continue doing what I love, and that is blogging!

Have you ever had any "pinch me" moments from blogging?

I have had a few of those moments. My first was when I was contacted by the PR firm, KCD Worldwide about working with H&M on a 50 States of Fashion campaign, which later lead to me hosting store openings and other H&M events. Another was attending LuckyFABB this past fall. I loved being surrounded by women and brands who are as passionate about blogging as I am. It was such an eye-opening and rewarding experience!

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Hmm... in five years I will be 28 (yikes!) I hope to still be blogging and achieving my blogging goals (I have monthly and yearly goals)  and having fun with it!

Any advice for new bloggers?

Before you start blogging make a plan... what you want to blog about, who you want your audience to be, how devoted you want to be to your blog, and what you want your blog to look like. I highly suggest reading Blog Inc. for a few pointers (I am reading it now and it hits home even after three years of blogging).  Find a niche and make it yours! I would also tell new bloggers to give it time and don't give up. You don't achieve goals over night. Blogging can be one of the most exciting and rewarding, yet frustrating hobbies! Don't be afraid to reach out to other bloggers, write about what you're passionate about, or to make google search your BFF when you can't figure out something blogging-related.

Where can we find you?

You can follow me on my blog, Life with Emily! I am also on twitter, instagram, and pinterest! I hope you'll join me!
